Tl;dr since I know y'all don't read
You don't need to "set up a new account" you'd be able to sign up with your Bluesky/blacksky/mu/self-hosted-whatever the fuck with all of your profile stuff already in
It being on atproto means that you can move your data to whatever servers if need be and it's automatically verifiably as you - in case of a musk style takeover.
It is both strip and classic page comic friendly, includes alt text, and is entirely online no bullshit installer or html needed
It allows multi-author credit
Has chapters, bookmarks, and the panel zoom
It's NSFW friendly.
I say this as a not engineer (who occasionally jokes we should put them in customer service camps until they learn how to people): it's actually easy to use.
I am not the dev or closely associated at all with it. I only spoke with them in DM once when they started the project so if you have any feedback, try to send it to the dev directly. (same here with leaflet)
It being on atprotocol does not mean you are under the purview of the Bluesky staff's bullshit - you can move - you are free.
It's in beta - come join the waitlist https://blampow.app/
Actual explanation
A bit ago showed me this post:
And I reached out directly to the dev because I genuinely do not know how to use discourse (the platform it's on) and refuse to learn. He said he'd reach out when he was ready and I promptly forgot about it.
For better or for worst, for reasons that are beyond me, despite me working as head of product and creative director for an entirely different, non-atprotocol company - Y'know - Trueref due to my popularity with I guess my commentary on why art websites all fucking suck now - you might know the one:
The Death of DeviantArt and the art-site shaped hole haunting the Internet
Why every new "Art Community" fails. Equal parts eulogy, condemnation, and mourning.
Everyone thinks I'm queen mother of artists on atprotocol - especially devs for some reason. So people come over to talk to me a lot.
Now I'm sure you're probably all aware I'm not too always keen on the dev community mostly because they refuse to make things that are useful to people - but I think that the ability to own your data in this fuckass environment is important which is why I'm still championing ATprotocol despite some devs being jackasses. So I say this with the the utmost optimism my frigid bitch heart can muster:
Today, that same dev returned to me to give me a chance to use that same website for the first time.
It was fan-fucking-tastic.
I accidentally became the first upload lmao
So you just sign in with your atmosphere account (bluesky, blacksky, northsky, self-hosted if you're a freak-)
on top you have to turn on a creator profile (I had to turn mine on it wasn't immediately clear but I think you can't turn it off after but it doesn't seem to make a difference lol I had to ask like uhm okay)
By default it ports your shit, aka minimal set up
It auto-ports your microblogging profile by default but you can change it.
I found out the banners do also support gif too
and i did tell the dev about making sure to reduce add motion settings for folks too!
They got fucking bulk upload + panel editing lIKE WITH ANIMATIONS AND ALT TEXT
ye i was just throwing shit in here to see but I did see proof (from the dev) that it is screenreader ready!!!
I'm every woman, they're all in meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Reading experience is pretty solid
with the ability to mark red and favorite and stuff, and I did try it out on mobile too just to see
I immediately opened it up on mobile like the little fucked up gremlin I am.
They're letting in people pretty slowly, but fixing issues quickly. I think I was just the first or second. So anyways yeah if you go in and you just see Astarion that was me lmfao -
anyyyywho.
I did immediately ask an important question:
we're so fucking back baby
Some important things to note:
This is still an early beta so if you get in: expect there to be bugs, please report them back to the dev and be cool about it, they can't fix what they don't know
As y'all know - I know discoverability is a huge problem (I would argue the bigger problem) but - because everything is on atprotocol - it means integration into RSS (which looks like it'll be part of the it) is going to be really easy. Currently all blogs on atprotocol (like pckt.blog and here on leaflet and ) can all find each other and are noticable and already supports comics - meaning that there's already an audience of readers looking for content - including everybody on microblogging platforms like Bluesky itself
^meaning that basically - the interoperability for linking and recommending people cross-platform without having to start over is already built - and if the platform can't sustain itself you can just port everything over to somewhere here like leaflet easily.
There's even other possibilities - like how I convinced leaflet to make blocks carry over from Bluesky, for example.
Not only that, but there's a lot of tools for growth and discoverability like with (a sex worker built marketing tool for nsfw content creators that can x-post on bluesky and soon to be xitter and tumblr) which has literally some of the best anti-harassment tools I've ever seen being built at the same time that will be interoperable.
I know I keep saying this but I need to repeat:
Atprotocol is not owned by Bluesky, it's more than Bluesky. The staff's stupid decisions and jackassery don't reflect the entire dev community.
Last note: please be kind, this is a solo dev who is doing something really good, and is really open to feedback. Don't make them regret that because y'all don't know how to act
Okay that's it I'm out love you don't be stupid in my comments I will block you.
